Kenneth A. Bidwell, 80, of South Windham and formerly of Manchester, died unexpectedly, Monday, March 3, 2014, at his home.

Ken was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Manchester, beloved son of the late George M. and Susan (Kerr) Bidwell, he attended local schools and was a 1951 graduate of Manchester High School. He retired in 1989 as district services agent after 36 years with the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation. He was a life member and past president of the Liedertafel Singing Society, the German Club of Broad Brook, Life member of the British American Club in Manchester, life member of the Manchester Coon & Fox Club in Coventry, member of the Moustache Club of Broad Brook, also the East Windsor Society for Detecting Thieves and Robbers, member of the American Polish Citizens Club of Griswold, Conn., member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1440 in Chaplin, a charter member of the Jackass Club of America in Chaplin, the Eastern Draft Horse Association, member of the I.O.O.B., the International Association of Turtles, the Connecticut State Employees Association, the Retires Chapter 408 of Willimantic. Ken was an avid sportsman and member of the National Rifle Association who loved to hunt and fish.

Ken is survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty Bidwell of Manchester, Grace Bidwell of Ellington, and many nieces and nephews. Other survivors include Ken's special friends, Kevin A. Sherwin of Florida and Harold and Carol Streeter of Willington. Ken was predeceased by his longtime companion, Lois O. James; his sister, Gloria Knoff; and two brothers, George E. Bidwell and Melvin T. "Ted" Bidwell.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Burial will be in the Buckland Cemetery in Manchester. Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 9, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home.
