Lawrence "Larry" Gibbens, 78, of East Hartford, beloved husband of 36 years of Patricia (D'Alessandro) Gibbens, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 6, 2014.

Born in Osceola, Mo., on July 13, 1935, a son of the late Moroni B. and Mary Agnes (Daly) Gibbens, he had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 71 years. Lawrence worked as a plumber for 27 years at Mellen White & Pelshaw, East Hartford. He was an avid bowler, and loyal fan of the New York Yankees and NASCAR racing. Larry enjoyed playing and coaching a men's slow-pitch softball team in East Hartford men's leagues.
Lawrence will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Patricia; a son, Mark Gibbens, and his wife, Kelly; a daughter, Barbara Jean Schofner, and her husband, Dan, of East Hartford; a stepson, John Labbe, and his wife, Theresa, of Coventry; eight adored grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Mathieu of East Hartford; two brothers-in-law, Butch D'Alessandro and Walter Ward; and two sisters, Pat Ward and Jackie Gibbens.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 21, at 12:30 p.m. at the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
