Richard A. Scussell, 82, of Stafford Springs, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Kimberly Hall, Windsor.

He was born in Stafford Springs, son of the late Ernest and Nellie (Panciera) Scussell. Richard served in the U.S. Army, and worked as a truck driver in his younger years and then for the I.U.O.E. Local 478 as a heavy equipment operator. In 1960, Richard met Elvis at his home and was able to converse with him and get his autograph. He had an avid love for flying and was owner of R&M Helicopter Inc. He received his student license and learned how to fly his helicopter. He would enjoy using the helicopter at Christmas, flying to Stafford in his Santa Claus suit, handing out candy to the children.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marilyn (Tripoli) Scussell; sons, Michael Scussell and Robert Scussell, and his wife, Mary; grandchildren, Joshua, Kyle, Ryan, Jessie, and Erin; two nephews; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Scussell.
A calling hour will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a funeral service to take place at 11 a.m. at Introvigne Funeral Home Inc., 51 E. Main St., Stafford Springs. Burial with military honors will follow in Stafford Springs Cemetery, Stafford Springs.
