Mildred "Ellie" Diffley (Nowak) Trevithick, 81, of Manchester, beloved wife of the late Richard J. Trevithick, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014.

She was born Aug. 14, 1932, in Norwich, the daughter of the late Timothy J. and Myrtle (Harmon) Diffley. She will be deeply missed by her family and her dear friends old and new, including those at White Oaks. Ellie was a very caring person always putting others first her entire life, leaving school at the age of 16 in order to support her single mother and family, working in the nursing profession, caring for her five children and her infirmed husband, RJ, in his final years.
She is survived by her children, Douglas Nowak, and his wife, Cindy, of Windham, Peter Nowak, and his wife, Lisa, of Newtown, Barbara Gibbons, and her husband, David, of Vernon, Robert Nowak of East Windsor, and James Nowak, and his wife, Lisa, of Woodstock; her brother, William Diffley, and his wife, Carole, of Old Saybrook; her grandchildren, Kevin and Jeffrey Nowak, Kayla and Melissa Nowak, Caitlin and Delaney Gibbons, Joshua and Amanda Nowak, and Timothy and Marissa Nowak; and her great-granddaughter, Lily Nowak. Besides her husband, Richard, she was predeceased by her siblings, Clifford, Frances, Robert, and Richard; and her first husband, Walter J. Nowak.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville.
A funeral home service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery, Rockville.
