Bridget M. (Knightly) "Bridie" Donovan, 90, of Manchester, died on April 12, 2014, at Manchester Manor.

She was born January 1924 in Castlemaine, County Kerry, Ireland. She was predeceased by Frank, her husband of 35 years. She lived in Manchester for over 60 years, retiring from Southern New England Telephone Co. Bridie was active in local politics. She was a member of the Irish American Home Society and past marshal for the Manchester contingent of the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Hartford. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Church in Manchester. She immigrated in 1950 to Philadelphia, Pa., later moving to Hartford where she met and married her beloved husband, Frank. Bridie studied and received an associate's degree from Manchester Community College and her Bachelor of Arts from Eastern Connecticut State University.
She is survived by several nieces and a nephew in Ireland; along with many close relatives and friends in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Florida.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff at Manchester Manor for their care and compassion to Bridie.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at 9:15 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., Manchester, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Church, 45 Ludlow Road, Manchester, followed by burial in St. James Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
