Lauren Nicole Picard, 33, beloved daughter of Terri Fedor Francis and Rick Francis of Vernon, passed gently into her final goodnight on Friday, May 2, 2014.

Lauren was born on Aug. 6, 1980, in Manchester and lived the majority of her life in East Hartford with her adoring grandparents residing in the house next door. After their passing, Lauren moved with her parents to Vernon and remained in the Vernon area. Lauren graduated from St. Rose Elementary School and East Catholic High School, Class of 1999. She attended Manchester Community College and was a graduate of Barbizon School of Modeling, having been chosen from a large field of applicants. Additionally she attended NASA Space Academy in Huntsville, Alabama. Lauren was a bright light that burned out too soon. She lit up any room she entered. She was compassionate, sensitive, energetic, and loyal. Lauren was a lover of animals, nature, travel, trivia, reading, live concerts, Disneyworld, Disneyland, and tag sales. She was exuberant about life and tried to live life to the fullest. To know Lauren was to know enthusiasm and excitement. She cared deeply about others and was always eager to help those in need, sometimes neglecting herself in the process. She rescued or attempted to rescue many animals of all types, one of which lives in her parents' home to this day. Lauren amazed her medical team at St. Francis Hospital three and a half years ago when she was badly injured as a passenger in a motor vehicle accident; she recovered, walked again, returned to work, and had plans to go back to school.

In addition to her loving parents, Terri and Rick Francis, she leaves behind her biological father, Norman Picard, and his wife, Judy, of Dalton, New Hampshire; half-sister, Janet Picard-Fontaine of Manchester; and Janet's daughter, Danielle, who spent hours at her bedside after Lauren's accident and during this recent illness, "Love you, Danielle." She also leaves her half-brother, Michael Picard, and his family, in Weybridge, Vermont. Lauren leaves special cousins, Amanda Lynn Francis of Manchester, who she thought of as her little sister, Colleen Gallagher and family of Orlando, Florida, John Lewkowicz and family of Atlanta, Georgia, Michael Videtto Jr. of Orlando, Liz MacDonald and Dr. Paul MacDonald, both of Boston. She leaves to mourn her adoring aunt and uncle, Pat and Michael Videtto of Orlando. She also leaves many other aunts, uncles, and cousins from coast to coast. Lauren will be missed by many, many friends, especially her lifelong best friend, Alison Wasik Watson, whom she knew since they were 5 years old; and former roommates, Melanie Bellware Murdocca and Claudia Sierra Mendoza. Lauren was predeceased by her grandparents, Michael and Zobeide Fedor of East Hartford and R. Cynthia Francis of Windsor; and her uncle, John Fedor Lewkowicz of Orlando. She was also predeceased by her great-aunt, Elizabeth Sullivan of Van Nuys, California.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, May 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, Vernon.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, May 9, at 11 a.m. at St. Rose Church, 33 Church St., East Hartford.

To honor Lauren's memory and unconditional love of animals please consider a donation to an animal shelter of your choice. Lastly, hug your child, mend a wrong, or do a good deed for someone in need in remembrance of Lauren.
