Gerard Collet, 80, of New Milford, formerly of Manchester, died peacefully Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Candlewood Nursing Home.

Gerard was born Oct. 7, 1933, in Ussy-Sur-Marne, France, son of the late Pierre and Marie-Louise (Bonamy) Collet. He came to reside permanently in the U.S. in 1968 and worked as a cabinet maker by trade and owned the Swiss Colony Cheese shop and Deli at the Manchester Parkade. He retired in 1995 for health reasons.
He is survived by his loving daughter Claudine Collet of New Milford; and three grandchildren, Isabelle, Anna, and Lucas Pippenger, all of New Milford; his half-sister, Françoise Collet; as well as his half-brother Denis, wife Hi-Ping, and two daughters Lauren and Rachel Collet, all of New York state. He is also survived by his deceased brother Bernard Collet's three children, his two nieces Martine Skoog-Laplante, husband Al, her daughter Jessica and husband Scott Matlock, Christine Rautenberg and husband, Wayne, and nephew Patrick, wife Judy and two children, Jaclyn and Jeffrey and wife, Erin Collet.
