Richard L. "Dick" Malone, 86, of Tolland, beloved husband of Mary (Parker) Malone, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 19, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born in Washington, D.C., to the late Sidney and Josephine (Carter) Malone, he graduated from Georgia Tech and served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, spending one year in Japan. He was a quality control engineer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft from 1955 to 1991 during which time he represented the company in Europe while living in Belgium for seven years. Dick was a devoted husband and father who was happiest living in their beautiful lake home on Bolton Lake, which he lovingly rebuilt and filled with mementos of their many travels through Europe and the U.S. He especially appreciated the friends they acquired, as well as his collections of clocks, hand-carved antiques, and his own designed stained glass masterpieces. He continued to have his sense of humor and love of jokes sharing them with family, friends, and his caregivers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his family for whom he was the strong constant. His skills and sense of humor will be forever with us.
Besides his loving wife of 50 years, Mary, he is survived by his daughters, Katherine Malone Hastings, Cynthia Cutler, and Leslie Frigon; his sons, Mark Malone and Steve Malone; his granddaughters, Jennifer Hastings, Mackenzie Malone, and Rylee Malone; as well as his loving great-grandchildren, Hayley Hastings, Ciera Curtin, Mason Ames, Jacob Howell, and Taylor Howell. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his two sisters and his beautiful granddaughter, Kelsey Malone Howell.
His family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Care for their compassionate care of Richard.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, May 24, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Ladd Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, Vernon. For online condolences please visit
