Harold P. Reed, 90, of Ellington, husband of the late Shirley (Webber) Reed, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2014.

Born in Springfield, the son of the late Earl and Emma Jean (Hudson) Reed, he grew up and lived in Thompsonville and Springfield before moving to Ellington over 60 years ago. Prior to his retirement in 1987, Harold was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for 40 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Rockville United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Ellington Square Dance Club. Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and going on vacation to his favorite place, Bar Harbor, Maine. He liked woodworking and making clocks. He was also the family genealogist.

He is survived by three sons, Allen Reed, and his wife, Deborah, of Windsor Locks, Gary Reed of Florida, and Brian Reed, and his wife, Tammy, of Vassalboro, Maine; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by three brothers, David, Earl, and Loren Reed; and a sister, Lila Laura.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Ellington Center Cemetery, 95 Maple St., Ellington, with military honors.

Memorial donations may be made to the Rockville United Methodist Church, 142 Grove St., Vernon, CT 06066; or to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
