Virginia L. (Ponticelli) Ierardi, 97, of Manchester, beloved wife of 70 years to the late Michael W. Ierardi, died peacefully Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Esther Ponticelli, she was born in Bolton. She then lived many years in Manchester and Hartford. She had retired from Royal Typewriter after 25 years of service and later worked for several years at Travelers Insurance Co. at the data center. Jean, and her husband, Michael, met at Lake Compounce, where they both loved to dance. When they took to the floor, they always attracted a crowd of spectators eager to cheer them on. Jean had a wonderful sense of humor and a beautiful smile. She enjoyed her trips to the casino and Hawaii, dining out, cheering for the Lady Huskies basketball team, and viewing the Wheel of Fortune. But most of all, she enjoyed time spent with her family and she was dearly loved by all. Jean was also a communicant of St. Bridget Church.

She is survived by her beloved son, Michael Ierardi of Manchester; her sister-in-law, Joanne Ierardi Mills of Plainville; her niece, Margaret Maneggia of Manchester; and multiple generations of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.

Michael would like to extend a special note of thanks to Patty and Sharon for their kindness and support. And also thank you to the Visiting Nurse Association of Vernon, especially Kathy, Lisa, Odelia, and Naomi whose special care was much appreciated by Virginia and her family.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main St., Manchester, followed by burial in St. James Cemetery.

The John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Manchester, has care of the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Vernon, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066.
