Zarold Nels Peterson, 86, of Vernon, beloved husband of 58 years to Evelyn (Long) Peterson, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014, at Rockville General Hospital.

Born in Pingree, North Dakota, the son of the late Martin and Lucy (Rosemore) Peterson, he grew up in North Dakota and California, and he lived in East Hartford before moving to Vernon 55 years ago. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He owned and operated Floorbright & Co. in Vernon for 55 years until his retirement in 2012. He attended St. Bernard Church in Rockville.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Karen Taylor, and her husband, Neil, of Bloomington, Indiana, and Stephen Peterson of Vernon; three grandchildren, Ian, Reilly, and Brynne Taylor all of Bloomington; and several nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends for memorial calling hours on Saturday, June 21, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Military honors will conclude the service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family.
