David Riopel, 49, of Vernon passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at his home.

Born in Hartford, the son of Teresa (Arnini) Riopel of Vernon and the late Donald Riopel, he grew up and lived in Vernon for most of his life. He was a graduate of Rockville High School. He was employed in food services at Rockville General Hospital for many years. He thought of his co-workers as his extended family. Dave had a passion for nature including going on long bike trips, canoeing, and hiking. He also enjoyed his daily routine of going to the gym.
In addition to his loving mother, he is survived by his beloved brother, James Riopel and his wife, Laura, of South Windsor; his cherished niece and nephew, Madison and Corey Riopel of South Windsor; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
His family will receive friends for calling hours on Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday, July 11, at 10 a.m. followed by a service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family.
