Paula Ballsieper, 69, born in Manchester on Oct. 9, 1944, passed away on July 12, 2014, after a sudden illness.

Paula graduated from Manchester High School in 1962 and started working at Aetna Life Insurance Co. the same year and continued to work at Aetna for the next 30 years until her retirement in 1992. Upon her retirement, Paula took up what would be her passion, cross-stitching challenging works of art, many of which she framed and gave away to many friends and relatives. Paula also enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and Frisbee. Also, since her retirement, Paula has devoted over 4,000 hours volunteering at the Coffee Cart at Manchester Memorial Hospital and many years and hours volunteering with the Wednesday work crew at the Little Theatre of Manchester. She also enjoyed Broadway musicals at the Bushnell and at the Goodspead Opera House.

Paula leaves her brother, Robert Ballsieper, and his wife, Pat, of Manchester; her brother, William Ballsieper, and his wife, Lorraine, of Deep River; her good friend of 52 years, Janet Forgey of Manchester; her nieces and nephews, Robin Simpson, and her husband, Steve, Donald Ballsieper, and his wife, Sylvia, Peter Ballsieper, and his fiancée, Karen, Heidi Andrew, and her husband, Scott, Piper Rice, and her husband, Jeff; and also her great-nieces and nephews, Travis Simpson, Don Ballsieper Jr., Cheyenne, Sierra, and Shania Ballsieper, Jen and Kevin Scherer, Henry, Hannah, and Hayden Rice, Waights, Alden, and Esme Andrew; and her cousins, Jim, Jay, and Kevin Lordan. Paula was predeceased by her parents, Paul R. and Dorothy (Mitchell) Ballsieper.

The Ballsieper families would like to thank the staff of the critical care unit at Manchester Memorial Hospital for their loving and compassionate care.

Memorial calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with a service to begin at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Paula to the Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah, 84741; or to the Humane Society of the United States.
