Born in Hartford on Sept. 21, 1940, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Diamente) Cassello, he had been a lifelong resident of East Hartford. John was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1958, and a talented woodworker who liked working around his home. He was the owner and partner with his son, Daniel, of Quality Mobile Washing Services in East Hartford. John had two great passions in life: one had four wheels and the other had four paws. He had an antique collection of cars from 1940, 1950, 1960, and 1970. Although his health had declined, his love of cars never did as he could always be found at area "cruise nights" or "car shows." His other great love was for animals as he was often referred to as the "Dog Father." He loved all the pets he had in his life and was very generous to different animal groups. He will especially be greatly and sadly missed by his German shepherd, Sasha.
Besides his beloved wife, Peggy, John is survived by a daughter, JoAnn Cassello, and her significant other, Charles Brown, of East Hartford; two sons, John Cassello Jr., and his wife, Mary, of South Windsor, and Daniel Cassello of East Hartford. He also leaves five special grandchildren, Christina Tauris, and her husband, Matt, of South Windsor, Anthony Brodeur, and his wife, Nancy, of South Windsor, Marie Arroyo, and her husband, Jose, of Hartford, Tina Burgor of Manchester, Sara Cassello of Norwich; nine adored great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Matthew, Anthony, Jacob, Ava, Ally, Danny, Mikala, and Michael; a sister, Mary Damaschi, and her husband, Robert, of East Hartford; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Marie Cassello of East Hartford; and a brother, Peter Cassello of East Hartford.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the D'esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's name may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111; or to Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation Inc., 103 Vision Way, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
