John R. Marum, 75, of East Hartford, passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at home with his loving wife and daughter by his side. He was the beloved husband of Rose (Pappalardo) Marum.

John was born in Fall River, Mass., and was the son of William and Elizabeth (Sheehan) Marum. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and spent his professional career as a reinsurance broker for Towers Perrin Co. in Hartford. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, the Clover Club, and the East Hartford Elks Club. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Most of all, he treasured his family, especially his wife, Rose, and daughter, Lynn.

Besides his wife of 44 years, he leaves his daughter, Lynn Marum of Manchester; his sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Dominick DeGaetano of Fall River, Mass.; sister-in-law, Alice Marum of Fall River, Mass., sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lucia and Joseph Spada of West Simsbury; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Lorraine Pappalardo of South Windsor; numerous nieces, nephews, and many supportive and caring friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, William and Robert Marum, and a sister, Dorothy Callahan.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Isaac Jogues Church, 1 Community St., East Hartford. Family and friends may pay their final respects at the funeral home between 8:45 and 9:15 a.m., or may go directly to the church Friday morning. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
