Clara Martin Obituary

Clara S. Martin, 81, of Enfield, entered into her eternal rest on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at her home, surrounded by her loving children.

Born on Jan. 17, 1929, in Mt Olive, N.C., Clara was the daughter of the late Anna (Agayoff) and Clarence Summerlin. Clara was employed by Stanadyne of Windsor for over 30 years, and was a hairdresser and real estate agent for the second half of her life. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and loved watching all the games. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, the casino, and the beach. Clara had a pay it forward approach to life and her kindness and selfless spirit touched all who knew her.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, she is survived by her brother, John Summerlin of Norwich; her close, loving children, Sharon Warnock, and her husband, Keith, of Enfield, Kimball Martin, and his wife, Colleen, of Oconomowoc, Wis., Donna Casarella of Enfield, and "Don", Kurt Martin, and his wife, Lisa, of Enfield. She was predeceased by her beautiful daughter, Laurie Milotte in 2007. Clara is also survived by her grandchildren of whom she was extremely proud: Lt. Col. AJ Gaston, who is currently serving in Afghanistan, Todd Gaston, Keith Warnock Jr., Alison Martin, Abbey Blunck, Ryan Martin, Jenny Sullivan, Valerie Stevens, Pete Wiers, Heather Bruel, Gina Messenger, Elissa Casarella, Kurt Jr., Rachel, Alex, and Sarah Martin; and her 15 great-grandchildren!

My sympathy to the Martin children. It is very hard to lose your mother. She was a good and hard working woman.

My condolences to the entire extended Martin family. I have fond memories of painting Claire's house on Rt. 5 in E. Windsor; and I have fonder memories of growing up as a child down by Trinity Drive and Storrs Road in the "old neighborhood." Claire used to drive all of us kids to a day of swimming and bbq-ing at Shady Lake. Hot dogs and hamburgers and red ripe watermelon...those were the days! Thank you Claire for all those childhood memories. But most of all thank you for being there for my Mom Olga-giving her rides to go shopping, doctor visits, and visiting her on holidays. Thank you to the entire Martin family -Claire played a very important part in living life fully expressed.

Clara was a very close friend of Olga Smith. Olga's sons were friends with Clara's children while growing up. We all loved her and will miss her.
