Edgar Mathiau, 86, of East Hartford, loving husband of 64 years to Evangeline Mathiau, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his family.

Edgar was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Biddeford, Maine, and was the son of the late Arthur and Florence Mathiau. Edgar served in the United States Navy, was employed at Hartford Ball and Hoffman Auto Group. He enjoyed hunting and golfing.
In addition to his beloved wife, Edgar is survived by his sons, Gary Mathiau of East Hartford and Michael Mathiau, and his wife, Loretta, of Saugus, Mass.; grandchildren, Heather Truitt, and her husband, Paul, Rachel and Renee Mathiau; and great-grandson, Vincent. Edgar is also survived by his sisters, Arline Mikulitz and Pearl Schindler. He is predeceased by his sisters, Irene Albrecht and Lillian Atkins, and his brothers, Ralph, Robert, and Raymond Mathiau.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Hartford Hospital intensive care unit and hospice unit for their exceptional and compassionate care given to Edgar.

Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours to be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. all to take place at Benjamin J. Callahan/Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family.
