Frederick F. Kida, 86, of Longmeadow, Mass., passed away on Nov. 10, 2012.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, the son of the late John and Caroline (Szitarz) Kida, and was the husband of Claire L. (Lemoine) Kida. He moved to Suffield with his family and as a teenager worked at Bigelow Sanford Carpet Manufacturing, where he maintained machinery. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an automobile mechanic stationed in the Pacific. After the war he returned to Bigelow as a weaver and continued employment at Crestliner Boats. He also worked at American Bosch in Springfield and retired from the Longmeadow schools after many years of employment.
Fred leaves behind his wife of nearly 60 years, Claire, and his only child, Gayle F. Kida, both of Longmeadow. Fred is also survived by his sister, Irene Ciepiela and her husband, Bob, of Boca Raton, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Rita DeMatos of New Port Richey, Fla.; and brother-in-law, Rene Lemoine of Longmeadow, Mass. Fred was predeceased by a brother, Frank Kida, and two sisters, Viola (Kida) Grigitis and Helen Kida.
Fred had a great sense of humor and was a practical and dependable man who cared about and was willing to help family and friends. He assisted with construction of the house he lived in, could figure out how to repair just about anything mechanical, and was dedicated to his Catholic faith. He enjoyed hunting before he married, and his daughter, Gayle, has many fond memories of fishing with her dad.
Funeral services for Fred will be held privately, and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Ave., Enfield, CT 06082.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels.
