Maria (Sokolowska) Niedzielski, 83, of West Hartford passed away peacefully, Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Hartford Hospital with her family at her side.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born in Bialokiernica, Tarnopol, Poland. She and her family were exiled to Siberia, Russia in 1939. After spending over a year in Siberia, she and her mother traveled with other Polish refugees and orphans to the East Coast of Africa, and settled in the Tengeru camp in Tanganyka, Africa. She remained there until 1948, when they were provided passage to England. She lived and worked in England where she met the love of her life, Antoni Niedzielski who predeceased her. She immigrated to the United States in 1951 and married Antoni a year later. She spent 32 years at the Travelers Insurance Co., where she retired as a supervisor of data entry and verification. In her retirement she enjoyed walking every morning at the local mall. She managed to instill that love of the mall in her four grandchildren, of whom she was extremely proud. They spent many happy times there shopping and having lunch together. She had a love of music and a beautiful singing voice that could often be heard singing Polish folk songs around the house. She was a parishioner of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church in Hartford. Her family and friends were most important to her, always putting their needs in front of her own. She will be dearly missed by all the people whose lives she has touched.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Bernie and Darlene Niedzielski of Manchester, and Andy and Judy Niedzielski of Wethersfield; as well as her four grandchildren, Amanda, Bethany, Drew, and Luke Niedzielski, all of Wethersfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, Charter Oak Avenue, Hartford. The burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford.
