Albert Joseph "Bert" Barone Jr., of Willington, passed away with peace on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, after a variety of health issues. Bert died as he lived his life - "on his terms."

Bert was born on Jan. 18, 1939 in Schenectady, N.Y., a son of the late Albert J. and Claire G. (Coppinger) Barone, Sr., before moving to Hartford as a child. He was raised in East Hartford and graduated from East Hartford High School in 1957 where he played football, track and field, and was class president for all four years. Bert was an intelligent, hardworking man. He started his restaurant career as a busboy at the age of 15 at the Marco Polo Restaurant, East Hartford and worked there until he opened his own restaurant and named it "The Pipe Dream" in Willington. He then proceeded to become co-owner of the Marco Polo for many years before retiring. Bert loved fishing, hunting, spending time at the beach, Opera (especially Luciano Pavarotti), traveling, and buying and selling properties. He was an avid reader, a great cook and loved to eat and share a bourbon with friends. Above all else, Bert loved his family; he was a great father and grandfather. He loved his children and adored his grandchildren with a passion that words could not express. Bert leaves behind his three children, Albert Barone III, Sally Barone, and Susan Barone; his beloved two grandsons, Adam Barone and Marcus Barone; his loving sister and brother-in-law, Marghi and Gerry Fauss; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Judy Barone; his sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Joe Cebellaro; along with his nieces and nephew. Besides his parents Bert was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Barone.

A memorial service will be held on the first Saturday of the new spring season, (March 23) at 11 a.m. at the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford. (Bert did not like the winter). A celebration of Bert's life will follow the memorial service.
