Gladys M. (Andersen) George, 84, of the Broad Brook section of East Windsor, beloved wife and best friend of the late Leslie M. George, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.

Gladys was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Alf and Johanne (Swenson) Andersen. She lived in Broad Brook since 1959 and worked as a teacher aide and office clerk at the Broad Brook Elementary School for 25 years. Gladys was a member of the First Congregational Church of East Windsor since 1960, teaching the fourth grade in church school and serving on many committees. Along with spending quality time with her family, she enjoyed collecting dolls, dancing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, counted cross stitch, reading, and shopping.

Gladys is survived by four daughters and their spouses, Diana and John Packard of Rockville, Joanne Slater, and her boyfriend, Timothy Castelvetere, of Enfield, Nancy and Stephen Okon of Granby, and Karen and Russell Green of Ellington; her grandchildren, Tracesea Slater, and her husband, Jesse Newland, and their daughter, Freyja, Rachel Slater, and her boyfriend, Justin Sosnowski, Richard Green, and his wife, Sara and their daughter, Sydney, Erin Slater, and her boyfriend, Brandon Hawkins, and their daughter Madelynn, Nicole Green, Samuel Okon, David Okon, and Ethan Okon; her sister, Martha Emro of Northwood, N.H. Gladys was predeceased by a brother, Albert Andersen, and a sister, Jean Hodgdon, both formerly of Barrington, N.H.

Friends and family may call at the Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home, 37 Gardner St., East Windsor, on Friday, March 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of East Windsor, 124 Scantic Road. Burial will follow in Windsorville Cemetery.
