Donald "Don" P. Getz, 63, of Ellington, loving husband of 44 years to Janis (Sumski) Getz, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2013.

Born in Manchester, the son of the late Howard and Anna (Lesko) Getz, he grew up and lived in Ellington for most of his life. He was a graduate of Ellington High School, Class of 1967. Prior to his retirement in 2005, Don was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for 37 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hampden, Mass. Don loved to read and travel. He and Janis traveled extensively throughout the United States. He had his private pilot's license and enjoyed flying.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Paige Getz of Stafford Springs; and his beloved "grandbuddy," Caden; a brother, Ronald Getz, and his wife, Marguerite, of South Carolina; a sister, Robin Oprysko, and her husband, Lew, of Hartford; and several nieces and nephews. Donald gave the gift of life through tissue donation.
His family will receive friends for calling hours on Thursday, March 28, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon, followed by a service at the funeral home beginning at 6 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family.
