JAMES 'JIM' A. HENDRICK, 89 SAVANNA - James "Jim" A. Hendrick, 89, of Savanna, Illinois, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Parkview Retirement Home in Freeport, Illinois. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Jim was born August 7, 1923, in Wyoming, Illinois. He attended Wyoming High School. On January 13, 1942, Jim married Ethel Dierksen in Kahoka, Missouri. Ethel passed away September 8, 2011. They farmed a short time near Wyoming. Jim continued to farm near Savanna, while working for the Ford Motor Garage, Savanna Fabricators, and the Eaton Corporation until his retirement in 1984. They raised three sons. For the past 27 years, she and Jim wintered at Weslaco, Texas. Jim was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Carroll, Illinois and the Savanna Moose. He loved driving his Oliver Tractor in parades, dancing, camping, bowling, pool, cooking on the grill and tinkering with music. Most of all Jim truly cherished writing poems for special times in people's lives. Jim will be dearly missed by his two sons, Wayne "Rusty" Hendrick of Carson City, Nevada, Rodney (Nancy) Hendrick of Rockford; nine grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; son, Albert; one sister, Hazel Helle; two brothers, Elmer, Robert. Funeral service and visitation was held Monday, April 8, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial in Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jim and Ethel's memory for a bench to be placed in Marquette Park, Savanna in their honor. I knew Jim from Parkview and will always think of him as a ray of sunshine that brightened our days! It is true - he could always make you smile. "Oh boy!" What an honor to have known & been able to serve him. He will be missed

Sorry for your loss of your loved one. He was a very caring man. always could make you smile. I only knew him a short amount of time but he was of my favorite people, just a very big hearthed man. We will truly miss him at parkview.
