Betty Goss

BETTY J. GOSS, 81 SAVANNA - Betty J. Goss, 81, passed away after a full life on September 16, 2013, at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. Betty was born February 25, 1932, at home in Thomson to her parents, Luther and Deloras (Johnson) Leavens, she shared her devoted parents with one brother and three sisters. She married E. Kim Bradley on September 11, 1955, in Thomson. From that marriage she shared two loving children, Steven Bradley and Sandy (Bradley) Mennenga. She later married Donald H. Goss on June 12, 1981, in Savanna; Donald passed away February 19, 2011. A wonderful mother and homemaker, she enjoyed spending precious time with family and friends and loved preparing family meals. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Savanna; her church family was an essential part of her life along with her unwavering faith in God. She retired from Eaton Corp. in 1987. She will be dearly missed by her children; one son, Steven Bradley of Savanna and one daughter, Sandra (Dale) Mennenga of Freeport; four stepdaughters; Joyce (Richard) Arno of Savanna, Donna Schuyler of Rock Island, Barbara (Richard) Collins of Savanna and Valerie (Rick) Steiner of Argyle Wisconsin, she was remarkably close to Valerie and her family; two stepsons, Robert (Pamela) Goss of Savanna and James Goss of Savanna; three grandchildren; Tamra Bradley, Melissa Mennenga and John Mennenga, twenty-six step-grandchildren, one great- granddaughter and eight step great-grandchildren. Betty leaves behind one sister, Janet (Harvey) Spoerl of Elizabeth, one sister-in-law, Phyllis Leavens of Florida, one brother-in-law, Guy (Emily) Ghan of Iowa, a stepsister in-law, Esther Goss of Rockford and stepbrother in-law, Darwin Goss of Indiana. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews, she was especially close to Cheri White and Eric Ghan of Iowa. Additionally she leaves behind several step-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald H. Goss, her parents, one brother, Dwight Leavens, two sisters, Edna Leavens and Joyce (Leavens) Ghan, one grandson, Joshua Mennenga, one stepson, William Goss Sr., two step-grandsons, Grant Berg and Tim Goss, one step-granddaughter, Heather Longmire and two step- great granddaughters, Alexia Scriven and Madison Adkison and one brother-in-law, Wayne Goss. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2013, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Lower York Cemetery at Thomson, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Savanna, Illinois.
