DONALD F. TESSENDORF, 63 BLOOMINGTON - Donald F. Tessendorf, 63, of Bloomington, died at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. He was born December 21, 1949, in Monroe, Wisconsin, the son of Frank and Violette Jacobson Tessendorf. He married Judy A. Townsend on June 23, 1973, in Stockton, Illinois and she survives in Bloomington. Also surviving are son, Jeremy (Shauna Foster) Tessendorf of Normal; mother, Violette Tessendorf and brother, Gary Tessendorf, both of Warren, IL; mother-in-law, Beulah Townsend of Warren, IL; and two brothers-in-law, Jerry (Cathy) Townsend of Stockton, IL and Greg (Ginnie) Townsend of Freeport, IL. He was preceded in death by his father. Don graduated from Warren High School and Highland Community College with honors. He earned his degree in automotive from Illinois State University. Don started working at Warren Auto when he was 15, and later worked at Thornton Motors in Bloomington from 1972-1986. While at Thornton Motors, he won several awards from Ford Motor Company, including trips to the Bahamas and Hawaii. Don started Tessendorf Automotive in Bloomington in 1986. He was a member of the Early V8 Ford Club of America and the Central Illinois Mustang Club. Don was remembered as "Mr. Ford" to many. He was a member of the Lionel Collectors Club of America and the Train Collectors Club. A celebration of life for Don will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May, 23, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Normal, with Rev. Jeff Henricks officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Normal. Don's greatest legacy is his son.
