Doris E. (Dumpman) Miller 1926—2018
Doris E. (Dumpman) Miller, 91, of Freeport, IL, passed away Monday, September 3, 2018, at Parkview Home in Freeport. She was born September 27, 1926; the daughter of the late Claus and Lena (Gastel) Hartog. She was a 1944 graduate of Aquin High School. Doris married Marvin Clyde Dumpman on April 23, 1946. They were married 52 years, and he passed on May 16, 1998. She later married Reggie Miller on July 19, 2003; he passed on November 20, 2013. Doris was a homemaker and farmed alongside her husband, Marvin. She was known for making amazing lunches for hired hands during the busy planting, harvesting, and hay making seasons. She was a member of the Silver Creek Reformed Church in German Valley. Her memberships also included the Red Hatters Society and the Ladies Aid Society. Doris loved to dance, travel, tend to her flower garden, and drive her little red convertible. She also enjoyed going to see the Greg Anderson Band with both of her husbands. A special highlight of hers was when she was able to go for a hot air balloon ride. Doris will be remembered as being a very generous person, always helping others. She is survived by her son, Gary (Pam) Dumpman of Freeport; granddaughters, Amy Dumpman, Lisa (Tim) Corp, and Sara (Robert) Schopf; great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Kennedy, and McKinley Schopf; sister, Jayne Hoffman of Georgia; niece, Meredith Hoffman; nephew, Matthew Hoffman; and sister-in-law, Ruth Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, Marvin Dumpman; 2nd husband, Reggie Miller; brothers, Donald and James Hartog; and stepmother, Ethlyn Hartog. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Parkview Home and FHN Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for Doris.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Walker Mortuary in Freeport. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 9 a.m. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
