Duane Kloepping

DUANE ELDON KLOEPPING, 81 LANARK - Duane Eldon Kloepping, 81, of Lanark, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at FHN Memorial Hospital, after a long, courageous battle with various health conditions. Duane was born Jan. 11, 1932, to John and Evelyn Kloepping in Lanark. He married Leanella Pieper on June 1, 1951, the day of her high school graduation, because he loved her and wanted to be at the ceremony that only family was allowed to attend. Duane was a private first class in the U.S. Army's 44th Engineer Battalion in 1954-55 and served in Korea. He also served as a firefighter for the Lanark Fire Department. During his life, he worked as a roofer, farmer, furniture store manager, upholsterer, and owned a shoe and sporting goods store. But his favorite job was superintendent of Lake Carroll Golf Course, which he did for 22 years. He developed a passion for golfing during this time that he shared with many friends and family. In 2008, Duane was inducted into the Northwest Illinois Sports Hall of Fame for his dedication to youth and his many years of officiating football and wrestling. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and a member of Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren, where he taught Sunday school. Above all else, Duane loved spending time with his family. He had a soft spot for his grandchildren and couldn't resist showing them off every chance he got. Duane is survived by his wife, Leanella Kloepping; sons, David (Tracy) Kloepping of Mt. Carroll, Ill., Michael (Mary Jane) Kloepping of De Pere, Wis.; grandchildren, Crena (Jason) Hamilton of Freeport, Ill., Christopher (Kathryn) Kloepping of Germantown, Wis., John Kloepping of Freeport, Ill., and Sarah Kloepping of Manitowoc, Wis.; great-granddaughters, Anna Counts and Molly Kloepping; great-great- granddaughter, Neveah Counts; sisters-in-law, Donna Kloepping, Beverly Derrer, Sandra (Harris) Thacher; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Evelyn Kloepping; brothers, Marvin and Francis Kloepping; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Kloepping; mother-in-law, Valida Pieper; and father-in-law, Aaron Pieper. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Cherry Grove Church in Lanark. The burial will immediately follow the service at the church cemetery. Duane will be missed dearly by his family and friends, but he had a tee time calling his name.
