Melissa Parker

melissa r. parker, 55 FREEPORT - Melissa R. Parker, 55, formerly of Freeport, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at the V.A. Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota. She was born Dec. 16, 1957, in Muncie, Indiana, daughter of Gene B. and Mary A. (Champ) Parker. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1976, and later served in the U.S. Navy, including time stationed in Europe. As a young person, she loved creating journals, poetry and art. Later in life, she enjoyed doing cross-stitch and other needlework. Fishing was another favorite activity. She had a lifelong love of animals. Prior to her health issues, Melissa was a funny and feisty person who loved life. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with breast cancer over a year ago while residing in Jamestown, North Dakota. Once the cancer spread, she lost her courageous battle with the disease. She is survived by her sister, Amy (George) Miller of Cedarville; one niece, Amber Miller of Rochelle; one nephew, Brett Miller of Freeport; one uncle, George W. Champ of Seymour, Ind.; one aunt, Marjorie (Larry) Young of Wabash, Ind.; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Cremation rites were accorded. No funeral is planned.
