Robert Briska

ROBERT W. BRISKA, 89 LAKE CARROLL - Robert W. Briska, 89, of Lake Carroll, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. He retired from Elkay Manufacturing Company as a Vice President and had been based in Lanark for many years. Robert was born and raised in East Chicago, Indiana. After high school graduation in 1942, he joined his father, William H. Briska, at Graver Tank and Manufacturing Company. His father was Chief Engineer and Plant Manager of that facility, a position that Robert eventually held. Robert served in the United States Navy during World War II in the European Theater as a hard hat salvage diver. He was briefly recalled to service during the Korean conflict. He was a graduate of the Illinois Institute for Technology specializing in mechanical engineering. Robert joined Elkay Manufacturing Company in Broadview, Illinois in December 1962. He initially served as manager of manufacturing engineering. As Elkay grew and diversified he was given successively more responsibilities for engineering and plant operations. In 1975, he was promoted to plant manager of the newly acquired water cooler division located in Lanark, Illinois. In 1984, he was promoted to a Group Vice President Assembled Products. Robert retired from Elkay in 1989. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Patsy (Rogers) Briska of Lanark, IL; children, William Briska, Luann Briska, Carrie Rush, and Carolyn Jarsoz; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He preceded in death by a son, Ralph Briska. A celebration of his life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the Lake Carroll Clubhouse. An opportunity for those wishing to share comments and memories with family and friends will begin at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in his memory be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
