DAVID W. VANSCOY, 57 WINSLOW - David W. VanScoy, 57, of Winslow, passed away in his home on September 29, 2013, with his family by his side. David was born on March 6, 1956, in Youngstown, Ohio to John and Evva (Bogart) VanScoy. He married Vicki Jo McKinstrey on June 24, 1978, at Glad Tidings Church in Loves Park. David had owned and operated his own construction business, Northern Illinois Construction, since 1978. He built several Parade Homes in and around the Madison area and one of his kitchens was featured in the Madison Magazine. He also owned and operated Warren Machine and Welding from 1989 to 1994. David's motto was "There isn't anything that can't be done!" and he lived these words, whether it was in the building trades or on a personal level. He strove for perfection in everything he did. David enjoyed working with his hands, camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, wood cutting and creating things, and he was always thinking about the next challenge down the road. He loved spending time with his family and his two dogs. He was a member of the Martintown Community Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Vicki, of 35 years; his daughter, Dr. Nicole Homb (Jamie) of the Quad Cities, and his son, Brett of Bovill, Idaho; one granddaughter, Kyra Townsend of Scales Mound; his parents, John and Evva VanScoy of Rockford; brothers, Mark (Joanna) of Edmonds, Washington, Steve (Penny) and Doug (Lee) both of Rockford; sisters, Janet Hubbard of Houston Texas, and Brenda of Durand; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Donald McKinstrey mother-in-law, Joan Hartley; his maternal and paternal grandparents; cousins and uncles. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 7, at the Bartell-Leamon funeral home in Warren, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, October 6, at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral home in Warren, IL. Burial will be at the Nora Cemetery. Pastor Kevin Cernek will officiate the service. There will be a luncheon following at the American Legion in Warren, IL. A memorial has been established in his name. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.leamonfh.com.
