JOHN F. HARRENSTEIN, 67 PEARL CITY - John F. Harrenstein, 67, of Pearl City, formerly of Forreston, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at home. He was born on Aug. 3, 1946, in Freeport, a son of Jacob and Alice (Ackerman) Harrenstein. John was a 1964 graduate of Aquin High School, a 1968 graduate of Highland Community College, and a 1970 graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He was formerly employed at Burgess, Micro Switch, and Sundstrand. He served in the US Army Reserves for twenty-one and one-half years. John was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his sisters, Margaret (Dean) Kempel of Lena, Mary Ellen (LeRoy) Rauch of Pearl City, and Dorothy Jean Schramm of Forreston; nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, George Harrenstein; one sister, Joan Marie Harrenstein; one nephew, Mark Rauch; and brother-in-law, Roy Lee Schramm. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Father Kenneth Anderson officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. The visitation will be at the Schwarz Park Blvd. Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd, Freeport, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, and after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
