LAWRENCE EARL WOESSNER, 90 SHANNON - Lawrence Earl Woessner, 90, of Shannon, IL, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. He was born July 30, 1923, the son of the late Irvin and Gladys (Horner) Woessner. He graduated from Shannon High School in 1941, where he had enjoyed playing sports and later attended Bradley University. Lawrence married Norma Schneider December 1, 1945, in Shannon. Together they farmed the ground and had raised feeder cattle, hogs, sheep, and sold Pioneer seed corn for many years. He was Ogle County Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1961. He had a wonderful hired man, Dave Gantz who worked for him for sixty years and was thought of as family. Lawrence was a director for the First State Bank of Shannon, Polo, and Lake Carroll for 10 years, where he was also a courier for many years. He was a member of the Shannon Lions Club with a perfect attendance for 51 years. He had participated in meetings in China, Hong Kong, Australia, and many other places where he made many friends. He was also District Governor from 1991 to 1992. His memberships also included Bethel United Methodist Church; Ogle County Farm Bureau, where he had served as a past president; the State of Illinois Agriculture Association; National Feed Grains Council & U.S. Meat Exports; Prairie Farm Creamery Board; and the Illinois Corn Marketing Board. He served on the school board for 28 years and had served as a past president. He enjoyed all meetings and playing solitaire on his computer. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Norma; two daughters, Connie (Bill) Lemos of Wheaton, IL and Laurie (Steve) TerHark of Lake Geneva, WI; son, Randy (Verna) Woessner of Shannon; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy (Gwen) Lemos, Brady Lemos, Brycellyn (Dean) Williams, Brittany (Jeremy) Schultz, Buffington (Brian) Rhea, Blakeley Woessner, Tyler (Allie) TerHark, and Britton, Jordan, and Barrett TerHark; two great-grandchildren, Jace and Avery Schultz; and sister, Carol (Gordon) Grande of Freeport, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Johnson; and infant brother, Donald. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 Sunday, November 3, 2013, at the Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon. The funeral service will be at Bethel United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2013. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
