MARJORIE 'MARGIE' L. MEISSEN, 67 DURAND - Marjorie "Margie" L. Meissen, 67, of Durand, Illinois died at 6:57 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous 17 year battle with cancer. Born October 29, 1945, in Durand, Illinois; the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter and Laura (Recoy) Zissler. She married David E. Meissen in Durand, Illinois on June 11, 1966. After graduating from Durand High School, Class of 1963, she worked at DJ Stewarts, CCEC and Atwood. For over 35 years she enjoyed helping people live healthy lives by being a Shaklee Distributor and in 1997 became a Shaklee Corp Director. Margie also helped her husband on their farm. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Durand, Illinois, where she served on the church council, was active in the TLCW and was involved on many church committees. Past member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she had served as president and held various offices. She was also a member of Jolly 31. Margie enjoyed gardening, reading, collecting porcelain dolls, creative writing, traveling with the family through the United States, Germany and Austria, but her true enjoyment was caring for her grandchildren. Survivors include husband, David Meissen, Durand, Illinois; daughters, Andrea (Steve) Harris, Shiloh, Illinois, Allison Meissen, Durand, Illinois and Amy (Donald) Powers, Stockton, Illinois; grandchildren, Rene, Shawn, Alyssa, and Thomas; mother, Laura Zissler, Durand, Illinois; sisters, Louise (Jim) Owen and Loretta (Thomas) Murawski, both of Durand, Illinois; brother, Eugene "Mike" (Susan) Zissler, Durand, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and brothers Walter Zissler, Jr. and Richard Zissler. Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, in Trinity Lutheran Church, 15585 Durand Road, Durand, Illinois, with Pastor Pat Esker officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery, Durand, Illinois. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home - Durand Chapel, 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, and again from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.
