ROGER C. HUBER, 89 DEKALB - Roger Charles Huber, 89, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Sunday, August 11, 2013, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center, DeKalb. Born November 17, 1923, in Freeport, the son of Charles F. and Mabel E. (Jacobs) Huber, Roger married Thelma Daws on November 16, 1946, in Freeport. Mr. Huber was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church of DeKalb. He was a cement mason for 41 years, spending the last 13 years at the Byron nuclear plant and retiring from there in February 1988. Roger was past governor of Freeport Moose Lodge 162, 1955-56. He spent 40 years performing on Moose ritual teams in Freeport, Bloomington and DeKalb lodges. He was a life member of DeKalb Moose Lodge 586, of Legion of the Moose (Second Degree), of Fellowship of the Moose (Third Degree), and Pilgrim Degree in 2006. Roger was a member of DeKalb Knights of Columbus and Elks. Roger's hobby from the early 1980s was videotaping, when those cameras first came out. He enjoyed taping play days and golf tournaments at River Heights Golf Course, and many weddings, reunions and parties for relatives and friends. He and his wife, Thelma, loved playing golf and going camping for many years. He is survived by his children, Steven (Tracey) Huber of Kirkland; grandchildren, Logan, Gabrielle and Brynley Rose; sisters, Phyllis Wahler of Richardson, Texas, and Marcia (Donald) Sorn of Monroe, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Lester Tietjen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma, on August 18, 2000; sisters, Pat (Melvin) Thierer and Leona Tietjen; brother-in-law, Kenneth Wahler; cousins, Harry Huber and Wilbur Rosenstiel; and his parents. The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 Pine Street, DeKalb, with Fr. James Parker celebrating. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, with a Moose service at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, at Lena Burial Park, Lena.
