ROCHESTER - Nelson, Randy Kelly, age 55, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Randy was born on May 26, 1957 to John Nelson Sr. and Louise (Pease) Ford. He grew up in Racine where he graduated from Horlick High School. He then attended Gateway where he received his degree in criminology. Randy married the love of his life, Luanne (Gilboy) in 1985. He joined the Racine County Sheriff’s office in 2011 after more than seven years as a police officer for the Town of Burlington Police Department. Randy truly loved his hunting and fishing trips, traveling on his Harley with Luanne, Brewer games with his family, and adored and loved spending time with his girls “Sammy and Sophie”. Randy is survived by his wife: Luanne; children: Randy Kelly (Jaime) Nelson, Jr of Racine; Benji Gister of Rochester and Jaymie Gister of Racine, seven grandchildren; his mother: Louise Ford of Horicon; sister: Bonnie Petrakis of Tomahawk; brother: Larry (Julie) Shockley of Sarona and sister: Sharyon Kubista of Mayville. He is further survived by many other family members. The family would like to send a special “thank you” to Dr. Haider, Katrina and staff at the Aurora Vince Lombardi Cancer Center in Burlington, WI. We in law enforcement appreciate Randy for the work we know he must have done. I never knew him, but based on my interactions with other Town of Burlington officers who became deputies, Randy must have been an outstanding person.
