Chester Roszkowski

RACINE - Chester Roszkowski, 84, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012 (12-12-12). He was born in Racine on January 5, 1928, the son of the late Alexander and Leonia (nee: Babinski) Roszkowski. Chet graduated from Washington Park High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served his country with the U.S. Army. On June 4, 1960, in Holy Name Church, he was united in marriage to the former Phyllis McManus. Chet was a very talented carpenter and had been employed by various builders, including, Korndoerfer Corp., Gordon Monifeldt Builders, and Ray Keifler Builders. Chet was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. He served as president for the Carpenters Local for over 20 years. He was an accomplished woodworker. Surviving are his devoted wife, Phyllis; children, Michael (Tally) Roszkowski, of Racine, Jane (Andrew) Held, of Madison, and Alan Roszkowski, of Racine; grandchildren, Alex, Hannah, Claire, Sophie, Elliot, Eva, Naomi, Caroline; brother, Edward (Pat) Roszkowski, of Greenfield; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Katie Roszkowski, of Racine, Faith Roszkowski, of New York, NY, Harry Nielsen, of Racine, Margaret Mulroy, of San Diego, CA, Mary Kirsch, of Edina, MN, Marge McManus, of Eau Claire. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive him. In addition to his parents, Chet was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Harriet Kaminski, Walter (Margaret) Roszkowski, Casimir “Kayo” Roszkowski, Stanley (Betty) Roszkowski, Henry Roszkowski, Alex (Delia) Roszkowski, Eugene (Winifred) Roszkowski, and Sophie Pierce; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John (Pat) McManus, Gerald (Iva) McManus, Bernadette Nielsen, and Douglas McManus. A Memorial Mass, celebrating his life, will be held in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., on Monday, December 17th, at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Private burial will be held at a later date.
