Gertrude DeVuyst

RACINE - Gertrude DeVuyst, 93, formerly of Kenosha, passed away Monday, December 31, 2007, at her residence. Born on January 27, 1914, in Lake Geneva, she was the daughter of the late John George and Bodil Marie (nee: Hansen) Ebbesen. On January 1, 1936, she married Lyle DeVuyst in Lake Geneva. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1991. Gertrude was a lifelong resident of Kenosha County, where she was very active in the community. She was a member of Bristol United Methodist Church, past President of the Kenosha Hospital Auxiliary, where she also volunteered. She was a member of the Kenosha Women's Club, former President of the Bristol Women's Club, PEO Chapter CQ, and the Kenosha Danish Sisterhood. Gertrude enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting for her family and friends. Survivors include her son, Ross DeVuyst and her beloved daughter-in-law, Donna DeVuyst of Racine; a daughter, Lauren DeVuyst of Racine; three grandchildren, B. Joseph (Kim) Lambke of Racine, Melissa DeVuyst of Racine, and Andrew (Jessie) DeVuyst of Elizabethtown, Ky.; five great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Diane (John) Haslam of South Milwaukee and Andrea (Terrance) Cerni of Dousman. She is also survived by other relatives and many friends. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Bristol United Methodist Church, 8014 – 199th Avenue. Private interment will be held in Salem Mound Cemetery. Memorials to Bristol United Methodist Church or the PEO Chapter CQ would be appreciated by the family.
