James J. "Jim" Duffy

BURLINGTON - James J. “Jim” Duffy, age 93, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Pine Brook Pointe. Jim was born September 8, 1919 in Duluth, MN, to the late Harry T. and Vada (nee Watts) Duffy. He spent his early life and received his education in Duluth. Jim had dropped out of college to join the Army Air Corps in early 1941. He flew 52 missions piloting an A-20 Bomber in the African Theatre. Jim was awarded numerous Air Medals, the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for his gallantry in action against the enemy. On August 16, 1945 in Lafayette, IN, Jim was united in marriage to Catherine “Katie” Ruppert. Following marriage they made their home in Burlington. Jim had worked for Lavelle Industries as a cost accountant. He was a member of the Lions Club, the USAF Reserve, and had served several years as a Burlington Alderman. Jim was a member and an usher for St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington. His hobbies included golf, and watching the Green Bay Packers, Badger Football and hockey. Jim spent quality time with his children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed his alone time with the love of his life, Katie. Survivors include his loving wife, Katie, their children; Peggy Combs of Denver, CO, Jack Duffy of Wausau, Tim Duffy of Madison, Mary Krueger of Lake Tomahawk, Patty Rydzik of Waterford and Terry Alexander of Denver, Co, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great - grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harry Duffy. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. James Volkert officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, February 16, from 10:00 AM until 11:15 AM in the Good Shepherd Chapel at St. Mary’s Church.
