Loyd E. Schoen

Loyd E. Schoen
Racine – Loyd E. Schoen, 88, passed away at Zilber Family Hospice House in Wauwatosa on Sunday, September 8, 2013. He was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan on July 9, 1925, son of the late Erwin and Juanita (nee McCrae) Schoen. He has been a Racine area resident for most of his life. On September 29, 1945 he was married in Kenosha’s St. Mary’s Catholic Church to Bernice Teresa Krzych. She preceded him in death on August 4, 2010. Loyd passed on to his children a fine work ethic, which he honed as a member of the UAW local 180 working at JI Case for many years. He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors; working in his gardens and around the house. He was a typical family man… and very proud of his children and grandchildren whom he loved very much. Loyd was especially proud of his service in the Merchant Marine during WWII, and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church. Loyd is survived by his children, Lloyd (Faith) Schoen, Helen (Paul) Back, David (Marie) Schoen, Michael (Lori) Schoen, and Rita Schoen; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Kenneth Schoen, Marilyn Kirby, Patricia Horton, Harlan (Mary) Schoen, Faye Bratz, Robert (Beverly) Schoen, and Jean (Robert) Kulig; sisters-in-law, Carol Schoen and Jeanette Schoen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was also preceded by his brothers and sister, Jack (Linda) Schoen, Ralph Schoen, Bernard Schoen, and Delores (Pete) McCormick. Visitation will be in the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2013 followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Interment and military honors will follow at the Union Grove Memorial Cemetery on Hwy 45. Memorials to St Monica’s Senior Citizen’s Home, or Zilber Family Hospice House have been suggested. Our family would like to thank Dr. Glenn Ragalie and the staff of Zilber Family Hospice House, and everyone at St. Monica’s for their loving kindness and compassion given to Loyd and his family.
