Mae Ellouise (Wilkins) Halstead

Mae Ellouise Halstead UNION GROVE — Mae Ellouise (Wilkins) Halstead passed away February 9, 2013 at 102 years of age. Mae Ellouise Wilkins was born April 24, 1910, only child of Milford and Lola (Latta) Wilkins, in Clinton, Wisconsin. She graduated from Clinton High School and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, manga cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science degree in English and Speech. She taught in high schools in Minnesota and Wisconsin. She married Robert Edward Halstead on June 12, 1937. They lived in several Midwest states during his teaching career. They came to Union Grove in 1965 when her husband began teaching at the Racine-Kenosha Teachers' College. Mrs. Halstead was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert E. Halstead in 1976 and her son Jon A. Halstead in 2012. She was a long time member of the Union Grove Congregational Church UCC and held many service positions. She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, and a past matron of the Union Grove Chapter. She was an active member of the Allied Council of Senior Citizens in Union Grove and its Treasurer for eight years. She is survived by her children: Sara (John) Pagels, Brighton, Michigan; daughter-in-law Marilyn Halstead, Madison; and Roberta Halstead-(George) Knudtson, Union Grove; five grandchildren: Theresa (David) Radandt, Ingalls, Michigan; Elizabeth (Al) Gulick, Clinton Township, Michigan; Donald (Shelly) Johnsen, Beloit; Barbara (Greg) Eckhart, Toledo, Ohio; and Edward (Sarah Jean Hartnell) Halstead, Madison; seven great-grandchildren: Duncan Radandt; Morgan and Jordan Gulick; Alexandra, Madelyn, and Olivia Eckhart; and Kaleb Halstead. Services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Union Grove Congregational U.C.C. Church, with visitation from 9:00 to 10:00 at the church with the service at 10:00. The Eastern Star will participate in the service. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Friday February 15, from 6:00 pm until 8:00pm at the Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home. Memorials may be sent to the Union Grove Congregational U.C.C.
