Mavis Jean McGill

RACINE - Mavis J. McGill (nee: Lewis), 83, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Ridgewood Healthcare Center. Mavis was born in Amory, Mississippi to the late Gladen and Era Mae Lewis on December 22, 1928. She was united in marriage to Lucian Russell McGill in May of 1949 and lived in Racine for most of her life. Mavis was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She volunteered at church meals and for the food pantry. Mavis also was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts of America. Mavis was employed by Western Publishing and retired in 1994. She enjoyed traveling and loved to ride in her Cadillac. It was very special that Mavis was a breast cancer survivor for over 20 years. Mavis will be deeply missed by two grandchildren, Kelly (Stacey) McGill and Bonnie (Steve Hoagland) McGill; five grandchildren, Alexander and Beatrix McGill and Gladys, Dorothy and Lucian Hoagland; her sister, Mable Robuck; and her daughter-in-law, Sandra McGill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucian on September 30, 1995; and her two children, Russell Gene McGill and June Lewis McGill. Memorial services in honor of Mavis will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3825 Erie Street, on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 3 pm. Relatives and friends may visit the family at the church from 1 pm until 3 pm service time. Per the family's wishes, inurnment services will be held privately at their family tree.
