Wardlow Allen Obituary

RACINE - Wardlow W. Allen, age 90, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Racine, March 14, 1920 son of the late William and Alice (Nee: Rasmussen) Allen. During World War II, Ward was stationed in Eye, England with the Army Air Corps as part of the Mighty 8th Air Force, 490th Bomb Group. On November 24, 1945 he was united in marriage to Gartha Everett who preceded him in death October 22, 2009. Ward was a musician and a well-known drummer who for 50 years played in various bands including the Nile Fuller Band and his own, the Ward Allen Trio. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially telling "tall tales" to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all. Surviving are his children, Vikki Berns, Michael (Chris) Allen, Connie Peterson (Larry Perfetto), Ronald (Theresa) Allen; 6 grandchildren, Erich, Tyler, Jacob, Jennifer, Randal, and Tracy; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Shepard; sisters-in-law, Nora Bell and Lela Klabunde; other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert. Private services with full military honors will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Ward's good friend Brett Halladay for his caring companionship. MARESH-MEREDITH & ACKLAM FUNERAL HOME 803 MAIN ST. My deepest sympathy to the Allen kids, grandchildren, etc. Having worked with Ward for many years at Racine Country Club I got to hear many "tall tales" about many topics but I also heard many stories about how proud he was of his children. He was a great man who put others first with things.
