RACINE - Joseph J. Tobin, age 90, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Racine Hospice House. Joseph was born in Huron, South Dakota, October 26, 1923, son of the late Fred R. and Zoa G. (Nee: Hays) Tobin. After high school, Joe moved to San Diego, CA, and worked for Consolidated Aircraft. During World War II, he was one of many who proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps. Upon leaving the military, Joe returned to Consolidated building aircraft for the war effort. On June 10, 1954 he was united in marriage to Audrey A. Ferguson. Joseph received his B.A. from Huron College, his Masters from Colorado State and advanced study at the University of Minnesota. He organized training programs for districts and was the Dean of Marketing at Gateway Technical Institute for twenty years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Joseph was a member of the National Management Association, and actively involved in the Sertoma Club for many years where he served as President and District Governor. Joe’s interests were many including politics and aircrafts of all types. He loved traveling abroad especially to Italy, Russia, Australia, and New Zealand. More than anything he treasured time spent with his family. He was a loving and beloved husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Audrey; his daughters and sons-in-law, Sona Thomas of Mt. Pleasant, Deborah (Merle) Bodmer of Waterford, Colleen (David) Voves of Mukwonago; grandchildren, Michael Thomas, Derek and Grant Bodmer, Natasha and Sean Voves. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was recently visited by niece, Colette and her husband Dave Schmidtke of Charles City, IA. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lona; 4 sisters and 2 brothers. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, November 19, 2013, 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St. with Reverend Terrance Huebner officiating. Private entombment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the church 10:00 A.M. until time of Mass.
