. BURLINGTON - Melvin L. Traughber, Jr., 58, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 25, 2013. He was born July 4, 1955 to the late Melvin Sr. and Evelyn (nee Phillips) Traughber in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He graduated from Burlington High School and went on to trade school to become a tool and die maker. Melvin had been married to Theresa Peterson (nee Hinson) and together they raised three children. Melvin was an Army Veteran and a member of the AmVets organization. Melvin loved to travel and lived all over the country, enjoying a free-spirited life. Family was most important to him and "Pa Pa" was the best story teller. Melvin enjoyed fishing and was a great cook. As a young man he wrote poetry and short stories that were often published in the church bulletin. Melvin was a spiritual man and his faith was very important to him. He will be remembered by his family as a fun-loving comedian, always ready with a joke or a limerick to make you laugh. Melvin is survived by his loving children, Sonia (Brian) Callewaert, Melvin III (Megan) Traughber, and Justin Traughber; his beloved grandchildren, Brandon and Zachary Callewaert, Victoria Lema, Morgan, Madison, and Makenna Traughber; his ex-wife, Theresa Peterson; his siblings, Jeanne (Brian) Tanking, Pat (Steven) Hlavacek, Michael (Cindy) Traughber, and David (Keri) Traughber; his Uncle Bobby Traughber, Aunt Dorothy Williams, and Aunt Mary and Uncle Jerry Hunt; as well as many nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Bostow and his parents, Melvin and Evelyn Elizabeth Traughber. Visitation for Melvin's family and friends will be held at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home on Monday, July 29 from 4-7 pm. Services will begin at 7 pm and full military honors will immediately follow.
