KENOSHA - Rosie Lee (nee: McMorris) Cole, age 82, departed this life on Monday, May 27, 2013 at 8:15 am at Hospice House in Kenosha, WI. Rosie was born June 12, 1930, in Dublin, Mississippi to the late Scott McMorris and Maude (nee: Peterson) McMorris. Rosie was the seventh child of the family along with twin brother, Roosevelt McMorris (deceased). Rosie received the Lord in her life at a young age and was baptized at Bethal Missionary Baptist Church in Greenwood, Mississippi. Relocating to Beloit, Wisconsin in 1945, she continued her education and graduated from Beloit Memorial High School. She was united in marriage on June 17, 1947, to William I. Cole at Bethel AME Church. Children were not of this marriage, but God put it upon her heart to assist in the care for her brother-in-law, Ralph Cole, and her mother-in-law, Hermie Cole. Later, Ivan Robinson became the child she never had. Their door was always open for those in need. Rosie was a wonderful housewife in all of God’s ways. Rosie and her husband became Seventh Day Adventist members at a Beloit church. She served in leadership holding various positions in the church. Rosie and her husband relocated to Racine in 1958 due to new employment for her husband at American Motors. She took CAN training at St. Luke’s Hospital and continued working there for 18 years caring for others. After finishing training, she continued her education in nursing school. It was said that “she was the lady of mercy.” After moving to Racine, she became a member of the Racine Seventh Day Adventist Church along with her husband. With spiritual leadership from teaching Cradle Roll and all other ministries she performed in the church, Rosie became the first woman Elder of the Wisconsin Conference Seventh Day Adventist in the Racine Seven Day Adventist Church. Rosie put her heavenly Father in every endeavor along with great spirituality, that all could be seen and felt in her great love for God and others. All the richness that life has brought, she gave so freely to all she met. She brought out the best in others with warmth and gentleness of really listening and understanding, and letting people know she cared how they felt. Her words were always “hold to his hand.” People looked up to Rosie and said that she had kindness and hands of an angel; no other person had the hands that heal as Rosie. Rosie is survived by her husband, William I. Cole; one brother, Charles (Mely) McMorris of Tennessee; six sister-in-laws, Nancy McMorris of Racine, WI, Gertrude Cousin of Tennessee, Wyetta Braingian of Chandler, AZ, Cathleen Carter of Sun City West, AZ, Martha Trayon of Avondale, AZ, and Joanna (Ralph) King of Avondale, AZ; one brother-in-law, David Cole of California; two special nephews, Carl Bowden, and Ivan Robinson, both of Racine; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Rosie is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Scott McMorris, Elmer McMorris, and Roosevelt McMorris (her twin); four sisters, Sally Mae Buckner, Dolly B. Sanders, Flora McShan, and Beatrice Davis. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at 11:00 am, at the Racine Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1810 Durand Ave., Racine, WI with Pastor James Fox officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will follow right after service at West Lawn Memorial Park, 9000 Washington Avenue, Racine, WI (262) 886-2400. The Repasts will follow internment in the Racine Seventh Day Adventist Church Fellowship Hall. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Decheck, MD, and all the nurses and Hospice Alliance and staff for the care you gave to Rosie.
