SHAWANO - Stanley A. Grazdiel, age 85, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 in Shawano. Born on May 29, 1927 in Racine, he was the son of the late Stanley and Catherine (Kummer) Grazdiel, Sr. After graduating from St. Catherine High School, Stanley enlisted with the United States Navy and served his country from the Pacific during World War II. After his honorable discharge from service, he furthered his education with a degree from Drake University where he was a member of Sig Epsilon. Stanley spent his life working in hotel and country club management throughout the United States and the Bahamas. On June 30, 1972 he was united in marriage to Joanne Helgeson in Palm Beach, FL. Joanne was the love of his life and his soul mate. The couple loved to travel and spent many vacations in Door County and in Minocqua. Stanley also enjoyed listening to jazz and big band music, going to Broadway plays, reading, and corresponding and dining out with his many friends. He also enjoyed watching football, especially the Green Bay Packers. He once wrote a proposal to Coach Lombardi and the Packer team which was accepted and they stayed at his hotel in Ft. Lauderdale for the ’68 Super Bowl Championship game. Stanley was active in the AARP and had held the position of President and Vice President for the local chapter. In 2000 the couple moved to the Shawano area. Stanley was a kind hearted man who always had a good joke or funny story to tell and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Stanley is survived by: his wife, Joanne; several nieces and a nephew; and his beloved Schnauzer, Barney. Stanley was preceded in death by: his parents; and 2 sisters, Peggy Lockowitz and Bonnie Pomaville. Private family services and private family burial were held. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano assisted with the arrangements. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of ThedaCare At Home and to Dr. Lewis for the wonderful care given to Stanley. Also, a special thank you to Mary, Nicole, Pam, and Ruby who faithfully helped with his home care for the past year.
