Shirley Meredith Exner RACINE — Shirley Meredith (née: Peterson) Exner, 83, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints on January 30, 2014. Shirley was born on the family farm in Waukesha, Wisconsin on July 5, 1930, the daughter of the late Arthur Clarence and Estelle Louise ( nee: Luke) Peterson. A Racine Park High School graduate "Class of 1948" Shirley and family spent many summers out at Wind Lake at the Wergeland Resort (a Norwegian Club). She briefly worked at Twin Disc as a Record Keeper in the Inventory Department. Shirley was united in marriage to Harold Paul Exner, September 6, 1951 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Racine. While her sons were active in the Boy Scouts, Shirley was a Den Mother with Scout Den #105. Drawing was Shirley's favorite hobby, she also found great enjoyment in needlework and bird watching. Three sons blessed Shirley and Harold's marriage along with eight grandchildren; Daniel (Jayne) Exner and their children, Stephen (Agata) Exner and Jeffery Exner. David (Teresa) Exner of Wheaton IL and their children, Meghan "Meggie" and Jesse Exner. Brian (Carole) Exner of Racine and their children, Rachael (Nicholas) Bartzen, Joel, Gabrielle, and Arielle Exner. She is further survived by great grandchildren; Kingsley and Simon Exner, one sister, Loris Jenkins of Racine, in addition to nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. One of five children, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Harold, brother, Allen A. Peterson and sisters; Gloria L. Bingen and Carol P. Merrill. Shirley loved her many nieces and nephews and spoke of them often. Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Saturday February 8, 2014 at 6 p.m. Visitation will be from 4-6pm with service to follow. Shirley will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Evergreen Quarterline Cemetery in East Troy, WI. Those wishing to remember Shirley in a special way may direct memorials to Lincoln Village Nursing Home, 1700 C.A. Becker Drive, Racine WI 53406. Shirley was a quiet, gentle woman who was loved by all. The patience and care she received at Lincoln Village and the many visits from family and friends enabled Shirley to live happily there for over nine years. As family, we are all grateful for the loving compassionate care she received.
