RACINE - Sandra Lynn Jones (née: Meyer) passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Hospital on Monday, February 3, 2014. She was born in Racine on August 13, 1939 to Frederick and Mildred (Korec) Meyer. Sandra graduated from Washington Park High School "Class of '57" and lived her entire life in Racine. On May 5, 1962 she was united in marriage to William S. Jones, Jr. During their time together Sandra became the proud mother of two children, Steven and Susan Jones. Love of family was very important to Sandra, from childhood on. She enjoyed a unique closeness with several cousins growing up, and the desire to surround herself with family remained with her always. Sandra enjoyed many things. She often reminisced with great fondness about growing up on Racine's south side during the 1940s and 50s. She spent several years working for the First National Bank in downtown Racine, before becoming a homemaker and mother. Sandra proved to be a selfless caregiver to her parents in their later years. She had a real soft spot in her heart for animals, especially the orangutans at the Racine Zoo; and over the years shared that special bond with several beloved pets. Sandra was a fantastic cook, passing down many cherished family recipes to her children. She enjoyed puzzles, crafts and taking walks. Above all else she was in her element as a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Sandra is survived by her children Steven (Judith) Jones and Susan Lemut of Racine, grandchildren Sara Mentink, Christopher Jones, Marcie, Noelle and Calum Lemut, all of Racine; great grandchild Bailey Ivanoski. She is further survived by William S. (Gail) Jones of St. Germain, Wisconsin, Daniel Lemut of Racine, and many dear relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved cousins Carolyn Lambert, Richard Rosenquist, Eileen DuCharme and special friend, Kenneth Dexter. Funeral services for Sandra will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening, February 7, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. A private interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 5 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:30 p.m. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Becker- Shoop Center, the South Shore Fire Department and the staff of medical professionals at Wheaton All Saints Hospital for the care and compassion they showed Sandra during her final days.
