Mary June Ward KENOSHA — Mary June Ward, 96, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Harmony of Kenosha. June was born on November 25, 1917 in Richland Center to Fred and Grace (Schlouch) Daly. Her family moved to Beloit when she was an infant. She graduated from Beloit High School and received her Bachelor's degree in education from U.W. Whitewater. June married James Ward on November 10, 1944 and the couple was married for almost 60 years until his passing on December 20, 2000. She taught school for over 50 years, starting her career teaching for 6 years in Beloit and Columbia, SC. She moved to Kenosha in 1946 where she taught the first grade for 20 years at Berryville and 20 years at Bose Elementary. June also taught at the Orthopedic School in Kenosha for 1 year, the Old Vocational School, which is now Gateway Technical, for 5 years and English for the new Americans & Citizenship. She retired at 83 years old and received the Kenosha Unified Distinguished Service Award. June also received the perfect attendance award 4 years in a row from 1988 - 1991and since her retirement she has taken 15 cruises to various places. She enjoyed tap dancing, traveling and especially reading children's literature. She was also preceded in death by, her parents. June is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Ward. In accordance with June's wishes, private services were held. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Carthage College Center for Children’s Literature would be greatly appreciated.
