KENOSHA - Ursula J. Christopherson, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Brookside Care Center. Born on March 29, 1930 in Racine, WI, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Elizabeth (Sarto) Collova. She was educated in Racine and was a 1948 graduate of St. Catherine’s High School. On September 28, 1962, Ursula was united in marriage to James A. Christopherson in Illinois. They later renewed their vows at St. George Catholic Church on September 23, 1978. They were blessed with a daughter and 51 years of marriage before James passed away on November 17, 2013. Ursula was employed as a secretary with Rockford Life Insurance Co. for a short time before she went to work for St. Catherine’s Hospital for 25 years, retiring from Beth Hillel Temple after 13 years. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels for three years and selflessly gave of her time reading to the blind. Ursula was a member of the former St. George Catholic Church and was currently a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church where she formerly served on the Parish Council and as a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed the time she was able to spend visiting and distributing Holy Communion to the homebound and disabled members of the church. She volunteered with the religious education program and the bell choir at church, served dinner at the Friday Fish Fries and Bingo nights. Ursula was also a member of the Catholic Women’s Club, Kenosha County HCE Bright Horizons for over 22 years and served as treasurer for 8 years. She was a member of Vittoria Colonna of the Roma Lodge in Racine, volunteering during their annual festival. She was a 4-H leader, chaperoned and traveled with the Black Watch band, served as President of the PTA and the Parents Advisory Board. She was rewarded for 30 years of service as a poll worker. Ursula and James had a love of traveling and went on 5 cruises, visiting Alaska, Mexico and Canada. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Lisa Christopherson; two sisters, Emma Nepper and Ruth (Jerome) Miller, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Verna Mae Mehring and Delores Ann (Gordy) Griffith, as well as, several loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Ursula was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and August Collova and a sister, Charlotte Bybee. “God love you” Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. from the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home with a prayer service lead by Vittoria Colonna. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 4804-7th Avenue. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 22nd from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial remembrances to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church or St. Mary Catholic Church, “Boiler Fund”, 7400-39th Avenue, would be appreciated by the family.
